319 Nonpoint source project
We are currently working to improve the water quality of one of the most diverse and ecologically valuable rivers in the state of Tennessee and beyond - the Hiwassee river.
The Hiwassee Phase II grant began on July 1, 2022. Funding is available to residents living within the Chatata and Little Chatata Creek watershed. The eligibility area can be found on this map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/1/edit?mid=1aJxJ9TZz5joGV0Blh06YRI3SvfGW4n8&usp=sharing
The Southeast Tennessee RC&D is happy to announce that we will be accepting applications for incentive payments to individuals/organizations that are planning to implement conservation practices known as Best Management Practices (BMPs) that result in reduction of nonpoint source pollution to the Chatata Creek Watershed. Some examples of BMP’s are: exclusion fencing, alternative watering facilities, and heavy use areas.
Septic repairs or replacements are both eligible for our grant funded cost-share program. Pumpouts are only eligible if they are necessary for completing a repair. Alternative systems such as Aerobic Treatment Units (ATUs) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
This grant will not cover the installation of new systems for new builds.
